BLACKPINK tops Oricon’s album chart with “The Album”

BLACKPINK has dominated the Oricon chart with “THE ALBUM” in Japan.

According to YG Entertainment, BLACKPINK’s “THE ALBUM – JP Ver.-,” which was released in Japan on the 3rd, topped the Oricon Daily Album Chart. It also topped Japan’s Apple Music Top Album Chart.

Prior to its release, “How You Like That” and “Lovesick Girls” were released at the top of major music charts such as Line Music, AWA, and iTunes in Japan, proving an explosive interest from local fans.

BLACKPINK became the first K-pop girl group million-seller (based on the Hanteo/Gaon Chart) with sales of more than 1.3 million copies with their first full-length album “THE ALBUM,” which was released in October last year.

It has also swept various global charts. “THE ALBUM” topped iTunes album charts in a total of 57 countries and topped the U.S. Billboard 200 and the U.K. official chart, breaking the K-pop girl group’s top ranking.

Meanwhile, BLACKPINK will mark their fifth anniversary on August 8. The film “BLACKPINK THE MOVIE,” which was produced to commemorate this, was released in more than 100 countries around the world today (4th).

The movie’s special screening will be held at 8:08 p.m. on the 8th at CGV Yongsan I-Park Mall 4DX Screen and ScreenX Hall, and YG and CGV plan to present reactive cheering sticks that produce various effects to BLACKPINK songs to the audience.
